Food delivery platform Zomato has introduced a zero-tolerance policy against the listing and sale of dishes containing analogue dairy products, including analogue cheese, analogue paneer and other dairy substitutes.
The move comes amid renewed food-safety scrutiny, including Maharashtra’s crackdown on analogue dairy products and inspections by food safety authorities in other parts of India.
Declared Analogue Dairy Dishes Delisted
With immediate effect, Zomato has removed dishes that restaurant partners have declared as containing analogue dairy products from its platform.
The company said the decision is aimed at ensuring that customers receive food that is accurately represented, safe and meets expected quality standards.
Restaurants Asked to Switch to Natural Dairy
Zomato has directed restaurant partners to take immediate steps, including:
- Transitioning from analogue dairy to natural dairy products
- Removing dishes containing analogue dairy where an immediate transition is not possible
- Reviewing supplier labels and ingredient declarations
- Ensuring that products listed on the platform accurately represent the ingredients being used
Restaurants found to be non-compliant may be delisted from Zomato, along with any other action available under the company’s policies and applicable law.
Zomato has also stated that it reserves the right to recover losses, costs, damages or expenses arising from the delivery of non-compliant products to customers.
What Are Analogue Dairy Products?
Analogue dairy products are products that can resemble traditional dairy ingredients but use alternative ingredients or substitutes, such as vegetable oils or other non-dairy components, instead of conventional milk-derived ingredients.
In foodservice, these products may be used in applications such as cheese, paneer and other dairy-based preparations.
Focus on Transparency and Food Safety
Zomato said the initiative is intended to strengthen food transparency, consumer protection and compliance with applicable food-safety requirements.
Aditya Mangla, CEO of Zomato, said the policy reflects the company’s commitment to safeguarding customer health and maintaining clear standards for food listed and served by restaurant partners.
The development marks a significant step by a major food-delivery platform to push restaurants toward greater ingredient transparency and compliance, particularly as regulatory attention on analogue dairy products increases.
