The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a major enforcement drive against multiple Food Business Operators (FBOs), issuing prohibition orders, suspending licences, and banning the sale of products found to be in violation of food safety regulations. The action targets misleading health claims, non-compliant labelling, and regulatory violations to safeguard consumer health and strengthen compliance across the food industry.
FSSAI Prohibits Sale of Neuherbs True Vitamin
FSSAI has prohibited the sale of Neuherbs True Vitamin™, marketed by Global Healthfit Retail India Private Limited, after finding that the trade name “True Vitamin” was misleading and not recognised under the Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements and Nutraceuticals) Regulations, 2016.
The regulator stated that the product’s branding and labelling violated the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018, and the Labelling and Display Regulations, 2020, as the name could mislead consumers regarding the nature of the product.
The company has been directed to immediately stop the sale of the product, remove all misleading claims, correct its labels and advertisements, and submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 30 days.
FSSAI Issues Prohibition Order Against Folineuro Syrup
In a separate enforcement action, FSSAI has issued a prohibition order against M/s Vatave Health Care for the manufacture, storage, distribution, and sale of FOLINEURO Syrup (Folinic Acid Syrup).
According to the regulator, the product name “FOLINEURO” and the brain image displayed on the packaging created the impression that the product supports brain or neurological functions, resulting in misleading claims. FSSAI also found that the product was classified as a “Nutritional Food Supplement,” a category that does not exist under the applicable food safety regulations.
Following its investigation, FSSAI concluded that the product failed to comply with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Health Supplements and Nutraceuticals Regulations, 2016. The authority has therefore prohibited the manufacture, processing, storage, transportation, distribution, marketing, and sale of the product with immediate effect.
Strong Message to Food Businesses
FSSAI has reiterated that food businesses must ensure that product names, labels, advertisements, and health claims strictly comply with food safety regulations. The authority warned that companies making misleading claims or violating food safety standards will face strict regulatory action, including prohibition orders, licence suspension, and legal proceedings under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The latest enforcement actions reflect FSSAI’s continued commitment to protecting consumers, promoting truthful product information, and ensuring higher standards of compliance across India’s food industry.
