The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered the recall of two food products after laboratory testing found them non-compliant with prescribed food safety standards.
The recall orders concern “Shalimar’s Chef – Coriander Powder”, manufactured by M/s Nilgiri Oil & Allied Industries, and Carrageenan, manufactured by M/s Aquagri Processing Pvt. Ltd.
Coriander Powder Found Unsafe Due to Pesticide Residues
A sample of Shalimar’s Chef – Coriander Powder was initially found unsatisfactory with respect to pesticide residues. Following a retest, the sample was again found to be non-compliant with the applicable standards.
The referral laboratory subsequently opined that the product was “unsafe” under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Carrageenan Fails Food Additive Standards
The second recall involves Carrageenan manufactured by Aquagri Processing Pvt. Ltd.
Laboratory analysis found the sample unsatisfactory with respect to food additives, with the product failing to conform to the prescribed standards. The referral food laboratory also classified the sample as “unsafe.”
Companies Directed to Recall Products
Following the test findings, FSSAI has directed both food business operators to recall the affected products from the market in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017.
The action highlights the food regulator’s enforcement efforts to remove products that fail to meet established safety and quality requirements from the market.
