Mumbai, September 9, 2026: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken enforcement action against several food businesses across the state, suspending food licenses over alleged violations of food safety regulations.
The action followed inspections of food establishments, including base kitchens and food plazas supplying food to railway passengers, according to the Maharashtra FDA.
Railway Catering and Food Businesses Under Action
The FDA suspended the food license of a hospitality and catering company linked to railway catering, while improvement notices were issued to four other food establishments following inspections.
The inspections were part of the department’s ongoing efforts to check compliance with food safety standards at establishments involved in preparing and supplying food to consumers.
Dairy Business in Kharghar Faces Suspension
The enforcement drive also extended to the dairy sector. The FDA suspended the license of a milk business in Kharghar after officials reportedly found serious operational irregularities during inspection.
The department has emphasized the need for food businesses to maintain proper hygiene, follow prescribed food safety procedures and comply with licensing requirements.
20 More Food Establishments Face License Suspension
The Maharashtra FDA also reported that licenses of 20 well-known food establishments, including hotels and restaurants, were suspended across different regions of the state.
The breakdown is:
- Mumbai: 6 establishments
- Konkan Division: 3 establishments
- Pune Division: 11 establishments
In addition, the FDA said that the licenses of three food establishments operating at ISKCON, Juhu, were suspended following inspections.
FDA Steps Up Food Safety Enforcement
The latest action highlights the Maharashtra FDA’s continued focus on strengthening food safety compliance across restaurants, catering operations, dairy businesses and other food establishments.
Food businesses found violating applicable food safety requirements may face enforcement measures, including improvement notices, suspension of licenses and other action as permitted under food safety regulations.
The Maharashtra FDA said inspections and enforcement activities will continue to ensure that food supplied to consumers meets prescribed safety and hygiene standards.
