Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (October 11, 2025) virtually inaugurated a milk powder plant worth ₹76.5 crore in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant boost to the state’s dairy sector.
The facility, established under the Indore Cooperative Milk Union, has a production capacity of 30 metric tonnes of milk powder per day, according to officials. The project is part of several initiatives inaugurated by the Prime Minister in the agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing sectors during an event held in New Delhi.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who attended the inauguration in Indore, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and stated that the plant—developed under the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD)—would play a key role in strengthening the dairy infrastructure of the state.
“Madhya Pradesh’s current contribution to national milk production is around nine per cent, and we aim to increase it to 20% in the next five years,” said CM Yadav. “The State government is committed to ensuring fair prices for farmers’ milk.”
The Chief Minister also highlighted that the Modi government has consistently raised the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for major crops like wheat and soybean, benefitting thousands of farmers in Madhya Pradesh.
He further discussed the recently launched Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana (Price Difference Payment Scheme) for soybean growers. Under this scheme, if traders purchase soybean at prices lower than the MSP fixed by the Centre, the State government will compensate farmers by paying the difference directly into their bank accounts.
“The Bhavantar amount will be directly credited to farmers’ accounts, bringing them cheer ahead of Dhanteras,” Yadav added.
Responding to criticism from the Congress, the Chief Minister said the opposition has “never worked in the interest of farmers,” adding that “the Congress lost power because of such actions.”
The new milk powder plant is expected to enhance dairy processing capabilities in Madhya Pradesh and provide a steady market for local milk producers, aligning with the Centre’s goal of boosting rural income and food security through cooperative development.
