Rajasthan Cracks Down on Unlicensed Sauce Factory Operating in Filthy Conditions 9000 kg of Pulp and Sauce Destroyed on the Spot

In a major crackdown on food safety violations, authorities in Rajasthan have taken stringent action against an unlicensed sauce manufacturing unit that was found operating in highly unhygienic conditions. The factory, located on the outskirts of the city, was producing and packaging tomato-based sauces without the mandatory license from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Officials from the food safety department conducted a surprise inspection after receiving complaints about the poor quality of the products. Upon entering the premises, they discovered dirty production areas, contaminated machinery, unlabelled containers, and improper waste disposal practices. There were no records of raw material sourcing or quality control tests — a clear violation of food safety laws.

During the inspection, enforcement officers seized and destroyed 6,000 kg of tomato pulp, 3,000 kg of ready-made sauce, and 75 kg of sugar syrup on the spot, citing severe contamination and unfit conditions for human consumption. The materials were disposed of safely under the supervision of food safety officials.

The factory was found to be operating without any valid registration or FSSAI license, a legal requirement for all food processing and packaging units in India. Authorities have initiated legal action against the factory owners under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which could lead to heavy fines and imprisonment.

Following the raid, the FSSAI once again reminded consumers and retailers to verify the 14-digit license number printed on every packaged food product. This ensures that the food item has been manufactured under regulated conditions and meets national safety and hygiene standards.

This operation underscores Rajasthan’s growing commitment to a clean, transparent, and trustworthy food supply chain. It also serves as a warning to unlicensed food producers operating in unsafe environments that strict action will be taken to protect public health.
