‘Bottles for Change’ to drive awareness, segregation, and recycling across Pimpri-Chinchwad
In a major step towards sustainable urban living, Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to launch a Zero Waste Plastic Management initiative. This collaboration, part of Bisleri’s Bottles for Change campaign and PCMC’s CSR-led Zero Waste Management Program, aims to transform Pimpri-Chinchwad into a model for responsible plastic use and recycling.
The agreement was formally exchanged between Shekhar Singh (I.A.S.), Commissioner, PCMC; Nilkanth Poman, Chief IT Officer and CSR Head, PCMC; Sachin Pawar, Deputy Commissioner (Health Department); and K. Ganesh, Director — Sustainability & Corporate Affairs, Bisleri International.
Key Objectives of the Initiative:
- Ensure 100% segregation of plastic waste at the source
- Launch community-level awareness and engagement programs
- Support the operation of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) within PCMC limits
- Recycle 360 metric tonnes of plastic waste annually for the next three years
By decentralizing plastic waste management at the ward level, the initiative aims to reduce landfill dependency and reinforce a circular economy model, where plastic waste is collected, recycled, and reused.
K. Ganesh, Director at Bisleri International, stressed the importance of community participation:
“This collaboration shows how community engagement can lead to measurable environmental impact. By spreading awareness and establishing collection systems, we can prevent plastic from reaching landfills and reinforce a circular economy.”
Nilkanth Poman, CSR Head at PCMC, added:
“Through this partnership, we aim to empower slum communities with tools and awareness for responsible waste management, driving both environmental and public health improvements.”
Sachin Pawar, Deputy Commissioner (Health), noted:
“The Bottles for Change campaign will support our efforts to educate citizens and promote segregation. We expect this partnership to deliver meaningful improvements in urban cleanliness and sustainability.”
Shekhar Singh, Commissioner, PCMC, reaffirmed the civic vision:
“We’re committed to making Pimpri-Chinchwad a model of zero-waste living. This project, across all eight zones, will create scalable systems for responsible plastic management.”
With public-private collaboration at its core, this project represents a significant leap toward cleaner cities and sustainable waste management practices.
