Dehradun: The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), in collaboration with SETU Aayog, Uttarakhand Milk Federation and the Uttarakhand Livestock Development Board, has developed a five-year Dairy Development Plan named “Dugdh Ganga” to strengthen and expand the state’s dairy sector.
The plan was released at the Uttarakhand State Secretariat in the presence of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah, SETU Aayog CEO Shatrughan Singh, UCDF Managing Director Jaideep Arora and ULDB CEO Rakesh Negi.
Focus Areas Under Dugdh Ganga
The five-year plan aims to address key challenges in Uttarakhand’s dairy sector through a range of interventions, including:
- Improving dairy productivity
- Expanding and strengthening dairy cooperatives
- Developing and upgrading milk processing infrastructure
- Strengthening marketing and market access
- Training and capacity building for dairy stakeholders
During the meeting, NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah highlighted the existing status of Uttarakhand’s dairy sector, along with its major challenges and growth opportunities. He also outlined the critical interventions required from the State Government and SETU Aayog to support the sector’s long-term development.
Steering Committee Formed To Drive Implementation
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan appreciated NDDB’s support in preparing the Dugdh Ganga plan and directed SETU Aayog to take the initiative forward.
A Steering Committee has also been constituted to oversee and guide the implementation of the plan. The Chief Secretary expressed his desire for the committee to convene its first meeting shortly.
The Dugdh Ganga initiative is expected to provide a structured roadmap for improving dairy productivity, strengthening cooperative networks, expanding processing capacity and creating better opportunities for farmers and other stakeholders across Uttarakhand.
The plan represents a coordinated effort between NDDB and state-level institutions to build a stronger, more sustainable and better-integrated dairy ecosystem in the state.
