The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has introduced an AI-enabled grievance redressal portal that allows citizens to report cases of food adulteration, counterfeit medicines, substandard drugs, and other food safety violations using voice commands. The initiative was launched under the leadership of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen consumer protection and improve regulatory enforcement.
According to the Maharashtra FDA, the new portal is designed to make the complaint process faster, more accessible, and more transparent. Instead of filling out lengthy forms, citizens can simply speak their complaint, making it easier for people across the state to report food and drug safety concerns.
AI Powered Complaint Registration
The portal accepts voice complaints in Marathi, Hindi, and English. The AI system automatically converts spoken complaints into a structured written format before submitting them to the concerned department.
Key features of the portal include:
- AI-based voice complaint registration.
- Support for Marathi, Hindi, and English.
- Automatic assignment of complaints to the appropriate officer.
- Auto-escalation if complaints are not resolved within the prescribed timeline.
- Complaint tracking with complete transparency and accountability.
- Real-time status monitoring for citizens.
Strengthening Food Safety Enforcement
The launch of the AI-powered portal comes as the Maharashtra FDA continues to intensify its enforcement activities across the state. Since taking charge, Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has led several operations targeting food adulteration, counterfeit medicines, illegal cosmetics, and unsafe food products.
Recent enforcement actions have included seizures of adulterated milk, unlicensed Ayurvedic medicines, and illegal cosmetic products. The department has also suspended licenses of food businesses found violating food safety regulations while increasing surveillance of high-risk food categories, particularly milk and dairy products.
The new portal is expected to improve public participation by making it easier for citizens to report violations while helping authorities respond more quickly and efficiently to food and drug safety complaints.
