In a significant move to safeguard public health and combat the rising menace of food adulteration, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety Department has carried out a major operation in Saharanpur. As part of an ongoing statewide crackdown, officials seized approximately 700 kilograms of adulterated paneer (cottage cheese) and 450 liters of fake milk. The seized food items were immediately destroyed to prevent any further health risks to consumers.
The inspection was conducted as part of a targeted campaign led by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), which is working closely with state agencies to root out food fraud and ensure that only pure and safe food reaches the public.
Samples of both the paneer and the milk have been collected and sent for laboratory testing. The results of these tests will help determine the exact nature and extent of adulteration, and whether any harmful or non-edible substances were used in the preparation of these products. Officials have confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible, in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act.
According to authorities, such large-scale adulteration poses a serious threat to public health, especially in areas with high dairy consumption. Common adulterants in milk and paneer—such as detergent, starch, or synthetic chemicals—not only degrade food quality but can also cause severe health issues, including food poisoning, digestive disorders, and long-term organ damage.
This recent action in Saharanpur is part of FSSAI’s larger mission to eliminate unsafe food from the market and promote hygiene, transparency, and accountability within the food industry. The department has reiterated its commitment to conducting more surprise inspections, especially in areas suspected of producing or distributing counterfeit dairy products.
Consumers are being urged to remain cautious and report any suspicious food items or unhygienic food handling practices to local authorities. Officials emphasize the importance of buying food only from licensed vendors and checking for valid FSSAI certification on packaged items.
This firm and timely action by the food safety department not only protects consumers from immediate health risks but also sends a strong message to food adulterators. The government remains determined to uphold food safety standards and ensure that only clean, nutritious, and legally compliant food reaches Indian households.
