In a significant step toward strengthening India’s dairy sector, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the Pradeshik Cooperative Dairy Federation (PCDF), and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in Lucknow, marking a new era in dairy development for the state.
In the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath, Animal Husbandry Minister Shri Dharampal Singh, and senior dignitaries from NDDB and PCDF, the agreements were finalized to hand over the management of three key dairy plants located in Gorakhpur, Kanpur, and Kannauj, along with a cattle feed plant in Ambedkarnagar, to NDDB on a 10-year lease.
This strategic partnership is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring sustainable practices, and creating better livelihoods for dairy farmers across the region. The NDDB will now be responsible for managing these plants with the goal of providing timely payments to milk producers, affordable and high-quality cattle feed, and improved access to dairy markets.
A Vision for Rural Prosperity
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that this move is a part of the government’s broader vision to boost rural income, create employment, and improve livestock nutrition. He highlighted that the MoU would inject fresh energy into Uttar Pradesh’s rural economy and strengthen the dairy value chain.
He also praised the achievements of NDDB-backed initiatives like Balinee, now the largest women-led Milk Producer Organisation (MPO) in Bundelkhand. Balinee has empowered lakhs of rural women, enabling self-reliance and financial independence.
Varanasi Milk Union as a Model
Citing the Varanasi Milk Union, which is managed by NDDB since 2021, the Chief Minister showcased it as a model success story. The union has reached full plant capacity, processing over 2 lakh litres of milk daily sourced from 30,000 producers, and has adopted a cow dung-based biogas energy model, setting a national example in sustainable dairy operations.
He encouraged other milk unions and cooperatives in the state to replicate the Varanasi model for similar success and impact.
NDDB’s Expanding Footprint in UP
Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman of NDDB, expressed gratitude and highlighted the transformative impact of the Chief Minister’s leadership on the state’s agriculture and allied sectors. He announced that Uttar Pradesh is now poised to become a key player in White Revolution 2.0, a national movement to modernize India’s dairy industry.
NDDB and its subsidiary, NDDB Dairy Services, have collaborated with the state to establish eight Milk Producer Organisations, collecting 18 lakh litres of milk per day from over 5 lakh farmers across 12,000 villages. Five of these MPOs were supported by the State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM), further amplifying their outreach and impact.
Several Central Government schemes like the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, NPDD, JICA project, and Fodder FPO schemes are also being implemented in the state through NDDB partnerships.
