The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has successfully facilitated the first-ever export shipment of biscuits from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, to Oman following the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The landmark shipment consists of 40 metric tonnes (MT) of biscuits and marks a significant milestone for exporters in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The initiative reflects the growing global demand for value-added food products manufactured in the region while strengthening trade ties between India and Oman.
First Biscuit Export from Varanasi to Oman
The export has been carried out by Shree Tirupati Balajee Industries Pvt. Ltd., a Varanasi-based manufacturer and exporter. The successful shipment demonstrates the increasing capability of local food processing industries to compete in international markets and showcases Varanasi as an emerging export hub for processed food products.
APEDA’s Support for Exporters
APEDA has played a key role in enabling this export by supporting the company through various export promotion initiatives. The organization facilitated participation in leading trade exhibitions, including AAHAR 2026 and Gulfood 2026, helping the exporter connect with international buyers and expand its market presence.
These initiatives have enhanced the visibility of processed food products from Uttar Pradesh and opened new business opportunities in overseas markets.
Export Route
The biscuit consignment will follow a well-planned logistics route before reaching Oman:
- Dispatched from Varanasi
- Transported to the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Kanpur for customs clearance
- Moved to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT)
- Shipped onward to Oman
This efficient supply chain highlights India’s growing export infrastructure for processed food products.
India Oman CEPA Boosting Trade
The shipment comes shortly after the signing of the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to strengthen bilateral trade and improve market access for exporters from both countries.
The agreement is expected to create fresh opportunities for Indian agricultural and processed food products by reducing trade barriers and encouraging greater commercial cooperation.
More Shipments Planned
According to APEDA, several additional shipments of processed food products to Oman are already planned in the coming months. The continued demand reflects increasing confidence in Indian food products and the export potential of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Strengthening India’s Processed Food Exports
The successful export of the first biscuit consignment from Varanasi to Oman is an important milestone for India’s food processing sector. It highlights APEDA’s commitment to promoting exports from emerging agricultural and food processing regions while supporting local manufacturers in accessing international markets.
As India expands its global trade partnerships through agreements like the India-Oman CEPA, initiatives such as this are expected to generate new opportunities for exporters, strengthen regional industries, and contribute to the country’s growing processed food export sector.
