The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to Ferns N Petals Private Limited, Kubera Foods, and Lotte India Corporation Private Limited for alleged misleading claims and labelling violations on various packaged food products. The action is part of FSSAI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety compliance, improve transparency in food labelling, and protect consumer interests.
According to the notices, the companies have been directed to submit explanations within seven days as to why regulatory action should not be initiated against them under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the applicable Rules and Regulations.
Ferns N Petals
FSSAI issued a notice regarding the company’s Roasted Almond Chocolate after identifying several labelling deficiencies. The authority stated that the product contains hydrogenated vegetable fat but allegedly does not carry the mandatory declaration required for chocolates containing vegetable fat. The notice also points to the absence of the prescribed % Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) declaration in the nutrition information panel.
Additionally, FSSAI observed that while the product is marketed as almond chocolate and displays almond imagery, the percentage of almonds used has not been declared in the ingredient list as required under the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations.

Kubera Foods
The notice issued to Kubera Foods relates to its Soft and Fresh Cream Bun Pineapple product. FSSAI has questioned front-of-pack claims such as “100% Natural” and “No Preservatives, Colours & Flavours,” while the product label reportedly declares the presence of preservative INS 282, synthetic food colour INS 110, and added flavouring substances.
The regulator also stated that the use of terms including “Pure,” “Fresh,” and “Natural” may not comply with the provisions governing such claims under the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations.

Lotte India Corporation
FSSAI also issued a notice to Lotte India Corporation Private Limited over the use of non-compliant pre-printed labels and various labelling and advertising concerns across multiple products.
Among the observations, the authority alleged that certain products carried the claim “100% Vegetarian” in a misleading manner, while some products did not present nutritional information in the prescribed format. The regulator also raised concerns regarding products marketed under names suggesting fruit content despite not containing fruit and the absence of mandatory disclaimers on the front of the packaging.
Strengthening Consumer Protection
The latest enforcement action highlights FSSAI’s continued focus on ensuring that food businesses provide accurate, transparent, and legally compliant information on product labels. Misleading claims and incomplete declarations can influence consumer purchasing decisions, making proper labelling an essential requirement under India’s food safety framework.
Food Business Operators (FBOs) are expected to review their product labels and advertising practices to ensure full compliance with the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations and the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations.
