The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken major enforcement action against a Food Business Operator (FBO) in South-West Delhi for alleged fraudulent re-labelling of food products and unauthorized storage of food and non-food items. During the operation, authorities seized more than 50,000 pieces food products and registered an FIR against the operator.
FSSAI Conducts Enforcement Operation
According to an official FSSAI press release, the Northern Regional Office (NRO) carried out the inspection after receiving intelligence about suspected illegal activities at the premises of M/s Westend Corporation Pvt. Ltd. located in Okhla Industrial Area Phase II, Bijwasan, South-West Delhi.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Director of FSSAI-NRO following information that the company was allegedly removing and re-printing food product labels to alter product information.
Fraudulent Re-Labelling and Unauthorized Storage Detected
During the joint enforcement operation, Central Food Safety Officers (CFSOs) found that the premises were being used for the unauthorized storage of various food and non-food items belonging to multiple brands.
Officials also discovered several food products carrying allegedly forged manufacturing dates, expiry dates, batch numbers, and altered label information.
Printing Equipment and Chemicals Recovered
The inspection team recovered several items believed to have been used for tampering with product labels, including:
- Printing machinery
- Chemical solvents
- Rubber stamps
- Label alteration equipment
According to FSSAI, these materials were allegedly being used to alter and counterfeit product labels.
Over 50000 Food Products Seized
To safeguard public health, local police seized more than 50,000 compromised food packs from the premises. Authorities have also registered an FIR against the Food Business Operator for alleged fraudulent practices and criminal tampering.
FSSAI Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy
FSSAI stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy against food adulteration, misbranding, counterfeit products, and other fraudulent practices that put consumer health at risk.
The authority said strict administrative and legal action will be taken under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, along with other applicable laws, against those found violating food safety regulations.
Public Asked to Report Suspicious Food Products
FSSAI has urged consumers to report counterfeit brands or suspicious food products through its official grievance channels, including:
- Food Safety Connect mobile application (Android and iOS)
- FoSCoS Grievance Redressal Portal
The regulator said public participation plays an important role in preventing food fraud and protecting consumer health across the country.
