FSSAI Introduces Standardized Vegan Logo for Food Products from July 2027

Vegan Logo

The amendment introduces a standardized vegan logo that must be displayed on approved vegan food products across the country. According to the notification published in the Gazette of India on May 25, 2026, the new requirements will come into force from July 1, 2027.

Why the New Vegan Logo Matters

As consumer interest in vegan and plant-based products continues to rise, ensuring the authenticity of vegan claims has become increasingly important. The standardized logo will provide consumers with a clear and reliable visual identifier, making it easier to recognize products that comply with FSSAI’s vegan food regulations.

The initiative is expected to:

  • Improve transparency in vegan food labeling
  • Strengthen consumer confidence in vegan claims
  • Reduce confusion caused by inconsistent labeling practices
  • Support the growth of India’s plant-based food industry
  • Encourage greater regulatory compliance among food businesses

Key Regulatory Changes

Under the amendment, every package of vegan food, after receiving approval, will be required to carry the prescribed vegan logo as specified by FSSAI. The notification also updates the logo specifications, including dimensions, design parameters, and color requirements to ensure uniformity across products.

Growing Importance of Vegan Foods in India

The Indian vegan food market has witnessed steady growth in recent years, driven by increasing awareness of health, sustainability, environmental concerns, and animal welfare. As more consumers seek plant-based alternatives, regulatory clarity plays a crucial role in maintaining market integrity and protecting consumer interests.

Industry experts believe that the introduction of a standardized logo will further accelerate the adoption of vegan products by providing consumers with greater confidence in their purchasing decisions.

Looking Ahead

With the implementation date set for July 2027, food manufacturers and brands have sufficient time to align their packaging and labeling practices with the new requirements. The move reflects FSSAI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen food labeling standards and support the evolving needs of India’s food industry.

As the plant-based food segment continues to expand, such regulatory measures are expected to contribute to a more transparent, trustworthy, and consumer-friendly marketplace.
