In a bid to strengthen food safety enforcement, the Gujarat Government has opened the floor for public feedback on proposed amendments to the penal provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The initiative, led by the Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) under the Health and Family Welfare Department, reflects the state’s proactive approach to ensure stricter compliance and safer food practices.
The draft amendments focus primarily on making penalty clauses more stringent, aiming to act as a stronger deterrent against food safety violations. These proposed changes are available for review on the official Gujarat Health Department website, and the government has invited objections and suggestions from citizens, institutions, and food industry stakeholders.
According to Dr. Hemant Koshia, Commissioner of FDCA Gujarat, “Transparency and stakeholder participation are key to effective policy-making.” He emphasized that the proposed amendments aim to make food laws not only tougher but also more practical for enforcement across the state.
The public has 30 days from July 21, 2025, to provide their input. Suggestions can be submitted online at the FDCA’s official portal:

Alternatively, stakeholders can scan the QR code available in the public notice to access the draft directly.
This initiative highlights Gujarat’s commitment to public health, accountability, and participatory governance, signaling a step forward in building a more robust food safety framework.
