In a major crackdown on food adulteration, Noida Police have seized 1,400 kilograms of fake paneer and uncovered a large-scale manufacturing unit operating out of Aligarh. The paneer, made using vegetable oil, washing powder, and harmful chemicals, was being supplied across the National Capital Region (NCR).
Massive Racket Uncovered
Acting on a tip-off, Sector-3 police in Noida intercepted a pick-up truck and discovered large quantities of suspicious paneer. Upon questioning, the driver, identified as Gulfam, revealed that the consignment originated from a factory located in Sahajpura, Aligarh.
A police team swiftly moved to the Aligarh location, where they found a makeshift manufacturing facility stocked with raw materials including vegetable oil, detergent-like substances, and other chemicals commonly used to create counterfeit dairy products.
Arrests Made
Three individuals – Guddu, Naveed, and Ikhlaq – were arrested in connection with the operation. According to initial reports, the factory had been producing fake paneer on a large scale and distributing it to street vendors and small eateries at prices ranging between Rs 180 to Rs 220 per kg, significantly undercutting the market rate for real paneer.
Public Health at Risk
This incident raises serious concerns about food safety and public health, as the counterfeit paneer was being widely distributed in the NCR region. Consumption of such products, especially those containing detergents and chemicals, can pose severe health risks including food poisoning, organ damage, and long-term illnesses.
Authorities Respond
The police have launched a full investigation to trace the distribution network and identify other possible locations involved in similar operations. Samples of the fake paneer have been sent for laboratory testing, and food safety authorities are expected to take further action under relevant food adulteration laws.
This case highlights the growing menace of food adulteration in India and the urgent need for stronger enforcement of food safety regulations. Consumers are urged to remain cautious and report suspicious food products to authorities.
