New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the State FSSAI licence of M/s Westend Agro Products Pvt. Ltd. with immediate effect after an inspection revealed multiple serious food safety violations at the company’s premises.
The regulatory action follows a complaint alleging the alteration of manufacturing and packing dates, fraudulent re-labelling, and the sale of misbranded food products. During the inspection, officials reportedly uncovered several critical non-compliances that raised serious concerns about consumer safety and compliance with food regulations.
Major Findings During the Inspection:
According to the inspection details:
- A complaint was received regarding the alteration of manufacturing dates, packing dates, fraudulent re-labelling, and sale of misbranded food products.
- Inspectors found that M/s Westend Agro Products Pvt. Ltd. and M/s Westend Corporation Pvt. Ltd. were operating from the same premises.
- Several food products were found with altered manufacturing dates, expiry dates, batch numbers, and misleading label declarations.
- Printing machinery, stamps, solvents, and other materials allegedly used for altering mandatory food label information were also recovered during the inspection.
- Packaging materials, labels, and printed wrappers carrying misleading declarations, including “Organic” claims, were seized from the premises.
- FSSAI stated that the deliberate forgery and alteration of mandatory food labelling information, along with the sale of food products carrying false or misleading labels, pose a direct threat to consumers and public health. The products are therefore considered prima facie unsafe.
Immediate Regulatory Action:
In view of the serious violations observed during the inspection, FSSAI has suspended the State FSSAI licence of M/s Westend Agro Products Pvt. Ltd. with immediate effect.
The action highlights the food regulator’s continued efforts to ensure food businesses comply with food safety standards, maintain accurate product labelling, and protect consumers from unsafe or misbranded food products.
