The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA), Uttar Pradesh, has launched a monthly operational schedule for its Mobile Food Safety Van in Lucknow, marking a significant step toward improving food safety and increasing public awareness about food adulteration.
The initiative is designed to provide consumers, food vendors, and local businesses with convenient access to preliminary food testing services while educating the public on identifying common food adulterants.
Monthly Coverage Plan
Under the newly introduced schedule, the Mobile Food Safety Van will visit all 23 designated food safety zones within the Lucknow Municipal Corporation from the 1st to the 23rd of every month.
After completing its urban outreach, the mobile laboratory will extend its services to nearby regions. From the 24th to the 28th of each month, the van will operate across the tehsils of Sadar, Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT), Mohanlalganj, and Malihabad, along with the Cantonment area.
On-the-Spot Food Testing
The mobile laboratory enables citizens to bring everyday food and beverage samples for instant preliminary quality checks. Food safety officials will conduct basic tests to identify possible contamination or adulteration and provide immediate guidance to consumers.
The initiative is expected to make food testing more accessible while encouraging greater public participation in maintaining food safety standards.
Consumer Awareness Campaign
In addition to testing services, FSDA officials will conduct awareness sessions demonstrating simple methods that consumers and food business operators can use to detect common food adulterants at home. These educational activities aim to promote safer food handling practices and increase awareness about food quality.
Campaign Begins in Lucknow
According to Assistant Commissioner (Food) Vijay Pratap Singh, the campaign officially commenced on July 1 with its first public awareness programme in the Narhi locality of Lucknow.
The monthly schedule is expected to strengthen food safety monitoring across the city and surrounding areas while helping consumers make informed choices about the food they purchase and consume.
Strengthening Food Safety in Uttar Pradesh
The introduction of a structured monthly schedule reflects the Uttar Pradesh FSDA’s continued efforts to improve food safety surveillance, expand public outreach, and encourage community participation in combating food adulteration. By bringing testing facilities directly to citizens, the department aims to make food safety services more accessible and foster greater confidence in the state’s food quality monitoring system.
