Lactalis USA has officially completed its acquisition of General Mills’ U.S. yogurt business, further solidifying its position in the American dairy market. The deal includes iconic brands such as Yoplait, Go-Gurt, Oui, Mountain High, and :ratio, and represents approximately $1.2 billion in annual net sales.
As part of the acquisition, around 1,000 employees and two manufacturing facilities—located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Reed City, Michigan—will transition to Lactalis. The newly acquired business will now operate under Midwest Yogurt, a fresh division headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Lactalis USA, a subsidiary of the French dairy giant Groupe Lactalis, plans to make significant investments in its new division, aiming to boost innovation, support its workforce, and expand manufacturing capabilities.
Esteve Torrens, CEO of Lactalis USA, said:
“This acquisition advances our U.S. growth strategy and strengthens our position as an emerging leader in the U.S. yogurt market. Incorporating the popular Yoplait brand into our U.S. dairy portfolio opens doors for growth, innovation, and positive impacts across our ecosystem.”
He added:
“At our core, Lactalis is a family company committed to delivering high-quality, affordable dairy products and investing in our people. We’re proud to welcome 1,000 new colleagues into the Lactalis USA family.”
Kerry DeLaney, CEO of Lactalis Midwest Yogurt, also expressed enthusiasm about the transition:
“The Yoplait team looks forward to an exciting future as part of Lactalis USA. With Lactalis’ global dairy expertise, we’re confident in expanding the brands consumers already know and love.”
This acquisition marks another significant milestone in Lactalis’ four-decade journey in the U.S. market, reinforcing its long-term commitment to American consumers and communities.
