In a major crackdown on counterfeit pharmaceuticals, Delhi Police have busted a fake antacid manufacturing unit operating out of north Delhi’s Ibrahimpur area. The raid led to the seizure of more than 91,000 counterfeit ENO sachets, exposing a large-scale health risk to consumers.
Tip-Off from GSK Leads to Raid
The operation was launched following a complaint from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the authorized manufacturer of the popular antacid brand ENO. Acting on the tip-off, police raided a rented shop in Ibrahimpur and uncovered a full-fledged illegal production setup.
Massive Seizure of Counterfeit Products
According to officials, the raid resulted in the recovery of:
- 91,257 fake ENO sachets
- 80 kg of raw materials used for making the antacid
- 13 kg of company-printed rolls used for packaging
- 54,780 counterfeit stickers
- 2,100 unprepared packets
- A filling and packaging machine
The fake products were reportedly ready for large-scale market circulation.
Accused in Custody
The arrested accused have been identified as Sandeep Jain (45) and Jitender alias Chotu (23), both residents of Ibrahimpur. Police said the duo was actively producing and packaging the counterfeit ENO sachets, aiming to pass them off as the genuine product.
Threat to Public Health
Authorities have warned that the fake antacids posed a serious public health risk, as the contents and quality of the ingredients remain unverified. The police have initiated a detailed investigation to trace the distribution network and potential buyers linked to the fake product supply chain.
“This seizure prevented a major health hazard. The fake ENO was ready for circulation and could have reached thousands of consumers,” said a police officer involved in the operation.
