India is set to showcase its leadership in the global rice trade as the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025 will be held on October 30–31, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
The event, organized by the Indian Rice Exporters’ Federation (IREF) in collaboration with APEDA under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, aims to strengthen India’s position in the global rice supply chain and unlock new export opportunities worth ₹1.80 lakh crore, with ₹25,000 crore in export MoUs expected to be signed during the two-day conference.
Showcasing India’s Global Rice Power
India, the world’s largest rice exporter, supplies to over 172 countries and produces nearly 150 million tonnes annually, accounting for 28% of global rice output. The country exported 20.1 million metric tonnes of rice worth USD 12.95 billion in FY 2024–25.
The conference will bring together over 3,000 farmers and FPOs, 1,000 foreign buyers from 80+ countries, and 2,500 exporters and millers. States and Union Territories will also exhibit their local rice varieties, celebrating India’s diverse rice heritage.
A Vision for Sustainable Rice Trade
BIRC 2025 aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and focuses on sustainability, innovation, and transparent trade practices.
Eight technical sessions will be conducted, chaired by senior officials and experts, to build a Vision & Roadmap document for the Indian rice sector.
The roadmap will emphasize improved yields, sustainable irrigation, certification, and traceability, helping India strengthen its role as a responsible leader in global food security.
Global Participation and Cultural Showcase
Foreign ministers from the Philippines, Ghana, Namibia, and The Gambia will attend the event, alongside major stakeholders from research institutions, exporters, and policymakers.
A Culinary Experience Zone, curated by IREF, APEDA, IRRI, and ITC Hotels, will showcase how Indian rice fits into global cuisines through chef demonstrations, tastings, and buyer clinics.
Celebrating India’s Rice Heritage
A special coffee table book capturing India’s rich rice legacy—including Basmati and non-Basmati varieties, GI stories, and farmer innovations—will also be launched during the conference.
With this initiative, India aims to not only expand its global rice footprint but also reaffirm its role as a sustainable, quality-driven contributor to global food systems.
