In a major step toward ensuring food safety and public health, the Food Safety Department of Uttar Pradesh carried out a surprise inspection at an oil mill located in Sambhal district. During the raid, officials discovered around 3,500 liters of mustard oil being stored and processed in extremely unhygienic conditions.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the oil mill was operating without a valid FSSAI license, which is mandatory for all food-related manufacturing and processing units under the Food Safety and Standards Act. The absence of proper registration and compliance raised serious concerns about the quality and safety of the products being supplied to consumers.
Officials immediately took samples of the mustard oil and sent them to the state laboratory for detailed testing. The results will determine whether the oil meets the prescribed food safety standards or contains adulterants harmful to public health.
According to food safety officers present at the site, the conditions inside the mill were unsanitary, with oil stored in rusted containers and improper handling practices observed during the raid. Such operations not only violate food safety laws but also pose a significant threat to consumer well-being.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), along with state-level food safety departments, has been intensifying its nationwide campaign against adulterated, unsafe, and unlicensed food businesses. This recent raid in Sambhal is part of a broader initiative to identify and take strict action against units that disregard hygiene, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Consumers are urged to purchase edible oils and other food products only from licensed and trusted sources, and to check FSSAI license numbers on product labels for authenticity.
The crackdown in Sambhal serves as a reminder that maintaining food safety standards is not just a regulatory requirement—it is a shared responsibility to protect public health and ensure that safe food reaches every household in India.
