The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) carried out a major inspection drive in South Goa to ensure food sold during the festive season meets safety standards. During the inspection, officials found 340 kilograms of sweets that were unlabelled or stored in unhygienic conditions. All the unsafe sweets were destroyed on the spot to prevent them from reaching consumers.
The inspection team also took action against one shop that was found operating in poor hygiene conditions. The establishment was fined for violating food safety norms. In addition to this, 16 food samples were collected from different locations to be tested in the laboratory for quality and safety compliance.
Officials from FSSAI said that such drives are being conducted regularly to ensure that food sold in the market is clean, safe, and properly labelled. They also reminded food business operators to follow hygiene rules, proper labelling practices, and maintain storage standards to avoid penalties and ensure consumer trust.
With festive celebrations leading to increased demand for sweets and snacks, FSSAI has stepped up its vigilance across states. The authority emphasized that food safety is non-negotiable, and any negligence in handling or storing food will lead to strict action.
These enforcement drives aim to protect public health and build awareness about the importance of safe food practices among both sellers and consumers.
