A two-day food safety inspection drive was conducted by food safety officials in and around Skara Market to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and protect public health. The drive was carried out following complaints and through random inspections of retail shops, wholesale establishments and restaurants.
During the inspections, officials detected violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, at certain food business establishments. Challans were issued to the defaulters, and further action was initiated in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Act.
Expired Food Items Worth ₹7,265 Destroyed
During the inspection drive, expired food products valued at ₹7,265 were found at a retail shop. The items were subsequently destroyed to prevent their sale and consumption and reduce potential health risks to consumers.
Warning Against Reusing Packaging Materials
The Food Safety Department also cautioned food business operators against reusing packaging materials for storing spices and other food products where such practices violate applicable food safety and packaging requirements.

Officials directed food business operators to use suitable, clean and food-grade packaging materials and maintain proper hygiene and sanitation in their establishments.
Food Businesses Directed to Follow Safety Regulations
The department emphasized that retailers, wholesalers and restaurant owners must strictly comply with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Food businesses must ensure that expired, adulterated or otherwise unsafe food products are not stored for sale, displayed or sold to consumers.
The inspection drive aimed to strengthen compliance with food safety standards and prevent the distribution of unsafe food products in the market.
Public Urged to Report Food Safety Violations
The Food Safety Department appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report suspected food safety violations to the concerned authorities.
Officials also reiterated that complaint-based and random inspections would continue to monitor compliance with food safety regulations and safeguard public health.
The drive highlights the importance of regular food safety inspections, proper packaging practices and responsible food handling to protect consumers.
