The Delhi government’s food safety department has seized more than 322 kg of ghee from retail stores offering steep festive discounts, including ‘Buy One, Get One Free’ deals and discounts of up to 60%. The inspections were conducted to check food quality, prevent adulteration and ensure compliance with food safety and labelling regulations.
Ghee Seized From Three Stores
During an inspection at Maxcart Store and Aggarwal Store in Vikaspuri, officials collected five enforcement samples of ghee from different brands and five samples of other food products. The team seized more than 75.50 litres of ghee from the establishments.
In a separate inspection at Aggarwal Store in Hastal village, officials collected three enforcement samples of ghee sold under the Shri Shan, Vrinda Farms and Avtar brands. A total of 246 kg of ghee was seized from the store.
The department stated that the collected samples would be evaluated alongside laboratory test reports before further action is taken.
Inspections Cover Other Food Products
The food safety department also inspected several other establishments across Delhi to verify compliance with food safety and labelling requirements.
At Sahib Sons in Azad Market, operating under the trade name Vicon International, officials collected two samples of sugar-boiled confectionery over suspected labelling irregularities.
Samples of makhana and turmeric powder were collected from Jain Store in Lajpat Nagar. At Yug Basket Private Limited in Rithala, officials collected samples of two varieties of biscuits, soft candy and sugar-based candy.
According to the department, violations of food safety requirements were recorded at the inspected establishments, and further action would follow.
Delhi Government Warns Against Food Adulteration
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the government would not tolerate food adulteration or irregularities that could put public health at risk.
She also urged consumers to check food products carefully before purchasing them, particularly during the festive season, when attractive discounts and promotional offers may influence buying decisions.
Consumers should verify product quality, packaging integrity, manufacturing dates and expiry dates before making a purchase. They should also check the applicable food labelling details and FSSAI licence information.
Laboratory Reports to Determine Further Action
The seized ghee samples will undergo assessment through laboratory testing, and the findings will help determine the next steps against the concerned establishments.
The enforcement drive highlights the importance of regular food safety inspections, accurate labelling and consumer awareness, particularly during periods of increased demand for dairy products and other festive food items.
