India has achieved another milestone in agricultural exports with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitating the first-ever export of frozen French fries from Uttarakhand to Iraq. The shipment marks a significant step in expanding India’s value-added food exports while creating new opportunities for farmers and food processors in the state.
The inaugural consignment of 24 tonnes of frozen French fries was exported from Kashipur, Uttarakhand, opening a new international market for the state’s processed potato products. The initiative highlights India’s growing capabilities in food processing and its efforts to strengthen global trade partnerships.
APEDA played a key role in supporting exporters by promoting Indian food products at major international trade exhibitions, including SIAL, Gulfood, IndusFood, and World Food India. These global platforms have helped Indian companies connect with international buyers and expand their presence in overseas markets.
India’s processed potato sector has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years. During FY 2025–26, the country exported 277,108.51 metric tonnes of value-added potato products, generating export earnings of approximately USD 289.40 million. The latest shipment to Iraq further reinforces India’s position as a reliable supplier of high-quality processed food products.
The new export route is expected to boost demand for potatoes grown in Uttarakhand, improve farmers’ incomes, encourage investment in food processing infrastructure, and create additional employment opportunities across the agricultural value chain. It also supports the Government of India’s vision of increasing agricultural exports through value addition and market diversification.
As global demand for convenient and processed foods continues to rise, initiatives led by APEDA are helping Indian food products gain greater recognition in international markets. The successful export to Iraq demonstrates the growing competitiveness of India’s food processing industry and paves the way for future export opportunities from Uttarakhand and other agricultural states.
