Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda inaugurated the third edition of the Global Food Regulators Summit 2025 on Friday at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, emphasizing the vital link between food, health, and mental well-being.
Organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the summit is themed “Evolving Food Systems – Yatha Annam Tatha Manah (यथा अन्नं तथा मनः)”, which underscores how the quality of food impacts not only physical health but also emotional and mental wellness.
In his address, Minister Nadda said, “Food influences not just physical health but also mental well-being, emotional balance, and the moral fabric of society.” He also highlighted the global importance of food safety in an interconnected world, where lapses can affect public health and economic stability.
Calling obesity a pressing challenge, Nadda referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a 10% reduction in edible oil consumption and stressed the need for collective efforts to promote healthier lifestyles. He praised FSSAI’s Eat Right India movement for its role in raising awareness about nutrition, food safety, and sustainability.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of FSSAI’s Eat Right Thali book, celebrating India’s rich culinary traditions while promoting balanced diets. Each thali showcased in the book features local ingredients and traditional cooking practices, encouraging mindful and seasonal eating to combat lifestyle diseases.
The summit, attended by representatives from 59 countries along with global bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), brought together over 100 Indian delegates. Day one featured technical discussions on global regulatory harmonization, sustainable food systems, and the integration of science and technology into food safety frameworks.
Commending FSSAI’s progress, Nadda noted that India has emerged as a global leader in public health and food safety through robust regulatory standards, upgraded testing infrastructure, and international cooperation.
The Global Food Regulators Summit aims to foster dialogue, innovation, and collaboration to build safe, sustainable, and inclusive food systems worldwide.
