The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has launched a dedicated licensing and registration framework for Ayurveda Aahara products on its Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal.
This initiative allows manufacturers across India to seamlessly apply for licenses to produce and market Ayurvedic foods, marking a major step toward formalizing and regulating the sector.
Key Highlights of the Framework
- New KoB (Kind of Business): Introduced exclusively for Ayurveda Aahara, enabling structured licensing.
- Alignment with Ayurveda Texts: Traditional recipes documented in authoritative texts are being standardized with modern food safety norms.
- Personalized Nutrition: Rooted in the Ayurvedic principle of prakriti (individual constitution), these regulations ensure authentic products for personalized diets.
- Approved Recipes List: FSSAI has already published 91 Ayurveda Aahara recipes (order dated 25 July 2025), offering Food Business Operators (FBOs) a pre-approved reference to manufacture compliant products.
