The National Geographic Society and PepsiCo have joined forces to launch Food for Tomorrow, a global programme designed to transform the way food is grown, shared, and consumed. The initiative aims to harness science, storytelling, and education to highlight regenerative agriculture as a solution for a sustainable food future.
With the world’s population projected to reach 10 billion by 2050, concerns over soil degradation and food security are intensifying. UNESCO estimates that nearly 90% of the planet’s soil could be degraded by mid-century if current trends persist. To tackle this crisis, Food for Tomorrow will support National Geographic Explorers, scientists, and storytellers in creating powerful narratives, scientific projects, and visual data that shed light on how regenerative farming can restore ecosystems while feeding the world.
Jill Tiefenthaler, CEO of the National Geographic Society, emphasized the urgency:
“Our future will be shaped by how we grow our food today—and we’re reimagining what’s possible when that system nourishes both people and the planet. In collaboration with PepsiCo, we’re investing in bold solutions and the farmers, scientists, and storytellers leading this essential work.”
Regenerative agriculture — farming practices that restore soil health, protect biodiversity, and work in harmony with natural ecosystems — is at the heart of this collaboration. The programme seeks to raise awareness about how these practices not only benefit the planet but also strengthen food systems and empower farmers.
PepsiCo, a global food and beverage leader, has already set a goal to expand regenerative, restorative, or protective practices across 10 million acres by 2030.
Ramon Laguarta, PepsiCo chairman and CEO, highlighted the stakes:
“Climate change is putting unprecedented pressure on the global food system, and farmers feel it every day. Food for Tomorrow combines PepsiCo’s deep food system expertise with National Geographic’s power to advance science and inspire action. Together, we’re aiming to support farmers, protect the planet, and help build a stronger, more resilient future for all.”
The partnership underscores the growing role of collaboration between science, industry, and communities in reshaping food production. With Food for Tomorrow, both organizations hope to ignite a movement that balances human needs with the planet’s health, ensuring a thriving food system for generations ahead.
