In a significant move to boost its manufacturing capabilities and meet growing consumer demand, Nestlé India has announced the establishment of its tenth manufacturing facility in Odisha. The company will invest ₹900 crore in this new factory, which forms a major part of its broader ₹4,200 crore investment plan across India by 2025.
Strengthening Presence in Eastern India
The Odisha facility marks Nestlé India’s strategic entry into the eastern region, enhancing its geographical footprint. Initially, the plant will focus on manufacturing Maggi noodles, one of the company’s flagship products. However, Nestlé has plans to potentially expand production to include chocolates and confectionery at a later stage.
Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Narayanan stated that this investment reflects Nestlé’s confidence in the Indian market. “We are seeing strong demand trends across categories, and this factory will help us serve our consumers better, especially in the eastern region,” he said.
Factory Completion Timeline and Employment
Construction of the Odisha plant is expected to take around two years. Once operational, the facility will create significant employment opportunities in the region. Nestlé India is also committed to promoting gender diversity, with plans to replicate its successful workforce model from the Sanand plant in Gujarat, where women make up over 50% of the staff.
Long-Term Vision and Market Growth
Nestlé India has invested over ₹7,000 crore in India over the past six decades, and this new investment reaffirms its long-term commitment to the country. The company has already deployed ₹2,100 crore in capital expenditure by mid-2023, aimed at scaling up operations in food, nutrition, and chocolate segments.
India is among the top 10 markets globally for Nestlé SA, the Swiss multinational that owns the brand. With this new plant, Nestlé aims to further strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving Indian consumer landscape.
