In a major development, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated legal action against several social media influencers, alleging a coordinated attempt to damage its reputation through misleading online content.
📍 What Happened?
According to officials, the Delhi Police registered an FIR after receiving a complaint from FSSAI on March 12. The complaint claims that certain influencer accounts, possibly working in collusion with insiders, circulated posts aimed at creating distrust and tarnishing the authority’s public image.
Authorities have also reached out to X (formerly Twitter), requesting detailed information about the accounts involved. This includes:
- Registered mobile numbers and email IDs
- IP addresses and session data
- Recovery contact details
📂 Allegations of Data Breach and Tampering
FSSAI has further alleged that some of the circulated content included confidential documents that may have been:
- Accessed without authorization
- Tampered with before being shared online
Officials believe this could indicate a deeper breach involving sensitive internal data.
⚖️ Legal Action Taken
The case has been registered under:
- Section 316 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – Criminal breach of trust
- Section 72 of the IT Act – Breach of confidentiality and privacy
Police confirmed that digital evidence is being preserved, and investigations are ongoing to verify:
- The authenticity of the documents
- The involvement of all parties
🌐 Public Reaction
The move has sparked mixed reactions online. While some users support FSSAI’s action, many on social media have criticized the FIR, calling it an overreach against influencers and free speech.
🧾 What’s Next?
Investigators are currently analyzing digital trails and waiting for data from X to identify the individuals behind the accounts. The case could set an important precedent for how misinformation, data leaks, and influencer accountability are handled in India’s digital ecosystem.
