The Food Safety Department, Kargil (UT Ladakh) has issued a prohibition order banning the sale and distribution of P-Mark “Besan” after laboratory tests found the product unsafe for human consumption.
The action was taken after a food sample of P-Mark Besan was collected by the Food Safety Officer, Shakar Chiktan, from a retail outlet in Kargil district. The sample was sent for testing to the National Food Laboratory, JNPA, Navi Mumbai.
🔍 Lab Test Findings
According to the laboratory report dated 06 January 2026, the besan sample was found to contain Chlorpyriphos (pesticide residue) above the maximum permitted limit prescribed under food safety regulations.
Health experts warn that consumption of food containing high levels of Chlorpyriphos may pose serious health risks, making the product unfit for sale.
