Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced ambitious plans to transform Andhra Pradesh into India’s leading hub for food production and processing. Speaking at the 3rd edition of the India Food Manufacturing Summit in Visakhapatnam, he unveiled the state’s AP Food Processing Policy 4.0, aimed at attracting investments worth ₹30,000 crore over the next four years.
Highlighting the state’s strengths, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh already contributes significantly to the nation’s food basket:
- 15.6% of India’s fruit production
- 32% of the country’s marine seafood exports
- 17.85% of egg production
- 10.41% of India’s meat exports
The Chief Minister emphasized that Andhra Pradesh leads the country in the production of rice, mangoes, bananas, chillies, turmeric, shrimp, fish, and eggs. With 2.26 lakh acres under aquaculture, 6,000 registered food units, and 8.45 million hectares of cultivable land, the state is positioning itself as a global food processing hub.
Infrastructure Push for Food Processing
Naidu outlined the infrastructure already in place to support the sector:
- Nine integrated food parks with ready-to-use facilities
- 17 lakh metric tonnes of cold storage capacity
- 33 lakh tonnes of warehouse space
- Industrial parks planned across all 175 constituencies
Additionally, specialised agro-clusters are being set up in Chittoor, Guntur, coastal Andhra, and Visakhapatnam focusing on fruits, spices, aqua products, cocoa, and coffee.
Investor Confidence Rising
The Chief Minister revealed that the state had already attracted ₹10,000 crore worth of food processing investments last year, reflecting growing investor confidence. Under the new policy, projects with investments above ₹200 crore will be treated as mega projects and will receive extra benefits and incentives.
National & Global Outlook
Naidu also pointed out that India is emerging as a global food processing hub, with Andhra Pradesh contributing 9% of national output valued at $49 billion. He urged investors to explore the state’s potential and collaborate in reducing food waste, ensuring food quality, and meeting global demand.
Supporting Naidu’s vision, Avinash Joshi, Secretary to the Union Ministry of Food Processing, lauded Andhra Pradesh’s initiatives and stressed the importance of cutting food losses. TPCI chairman Mohit Singla also announced that the Trade Promotion Council of India would establish a regional office in Amaravati. With these initiatives, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself not only as India’s food bowl but also as a world-class food processing hub.
