The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a major dairy development initiative named “Operation-4”, aimed at strengthening the rural economy, increasing milk production, and promoting indigenous cattle breeds across the state.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is implementing four key schemes focused on dairy expansion, cattle conservation, and farmer welfare.
Focus on Indigenous Cow Breeds
A major objective of the initiative is the conservation and promotion of indigenous cow breeds such as:
- Sahiwal
- Gir
- Gangatiri
- Sindhi
The government is encouraging farmers and cattle rearers to maintain high-yield indigenous breeds by offering incentives ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000.
Four Major Dairy Schemes Under Operation-4
The state government is currently implementing four major schemes:
- Mukhyamantri Swadeshi Gau Samvardhan Yojana
- Mukhyamantri Pragatisheel Pashupalak Protsahan Yojana
- Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana
- Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana
These schemes support dairy units ranging from 2 to 25 cows and aim to generate employment opportunities in rural areas while increasing farmers’ income.
Up to 50% Subsidy for Dairy Units
To promote dairy entrepreneurship, the government is providing up to 50% subsidy for setting up dairy units.
Financial Structure:
- 15% beneficiary contribution
- 35% bank loan
- 50% government subsidy
Under the Swadeshi Gau Samvardhan Yojana, farmers can receive subsidies of up to ₹80,000 for establishing a two-cow dairy unit.
Thousands of Farmers Already Benefited
According to Additional Chief Secretary Mukesh Meshram:
- More than 1,500 dairy units have been established under the Swadeshi Gau Samvardhan Yojana.
- Over 7,500 awards and incentives have been distributed under the Pragatisheel Pashupalak Protsahan Yojana.
- Around 72 units have been set up under the Nandini scheme.
- Approximately 245 Mini Nandini units have also been established.
Officials believe the initiative will significantly improve rural livelihoods, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the dairy ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.
