Mother Dairy, a subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), is set to establish a new milk processing plant in Jamalpur, Munger district, Bihar. The plant will be built with an investment of ₹250 crore and is expected to be completed within two years.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar performed the Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for the project on Saturday. The event was attended by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lallan Singh), Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, and NDDB Chairman Meenesh Shah.
Key Highlights of the Project
- Location: Jamalpur Industrial Area, Munger District
- Investment: Approximately ₹250 crore
- Land Area: 15 acres (allocated by Bihar government)
- Timeline: To be completed within two years
- Initial Capacity: 1 lakh liters of milk per day
- Future Expansion: Up to 2 lakh liters per day
According to officials, the region around Munger, located near the Ganges River, has abundant milk supply, ensuring steady raw material availability. The new plant will not only strengthen Mother Dairy’s processing capacity but also benefit local dairy farmers by offering them fair prices.
Production and Expansion Plans
Initially, the Jamalpur plant will focus on milk, yogurt, and cheese production. Over time, the company plans to diversify into other value-added dairy products as demand grows.
The project aligns with Mother Dairy’s ongoing mission to expand its footprint and support rural dairy ecosystems across India.
Mother Dairy’s Growing Network
This will be Mother Dairy’s 10th processing plant in India. The company currently operates nine plants across Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pilkhuwa, Etawah, Junagadh, Kutch, Tirupati, and Motihari.
Founded in 1974 during Operation Flood, Mother Dairy has played a crucial role in India’s dairy revolution and continues to promote the NDDB’s vision of sustainable dairy development.
