BL Agro, a leading FMCG company, has launched a state-of-the-art cattle breeding and dairy centre in Bareilly with an initial investment of Rs 1,000 crore. The Centre of Excellence for Cow Breeding and Dairy Technology, operated by its subsidiary BL Kamdhenu, was inaugurated on Saturday by Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan.
Transforming Dairy Farming with Sustainable Practices
The project, named “Satat Kamdhenu,” is a major step towards revolutionizing dairy farming through sustainable and circular agricultural practices. The newly established BL Kamdhenu Farms will begin operations with 5,000 indigenous cows, with plans to expand the number to 10,000 as the initiative scales up.
According to BL Agro Managing Director Ashish Khandelwal, while the initial investment stands at Rs 1,000 crore, the entire project is expected to require Rs 3,000 crore upon reaching full capacity. The initiative aims to create a sustainable circular economy that minimizes agricultural waste while benefiting local farmers and communities.
Cutting-Edge Technologies for Dairy Excellence
BL Kamdhenu incorporates advanced breeding technologies such as in-vitro fertilization to improve cattle genetics and increase milk production. Additionally, the centre features modern feed production facilities and bio-methanation capabilities for compressed biogas production, reinforcing a sustainable dairy ecosystem.
As part of its broader vision, BL Agro has also introduced a new subsidiary, Leads Agri Genetics, dedicated to improving animal genetics and plant breeding. One of its key objectives includes developing cattle breeds with lower methane emissions, contributing to a more sustainable livestock sector.

Supporting Local Farmers & Building a Circular Economy
A crucial aspect of BL Agro’s business model is its farmer-centric approach. The company plans to provide high-yielding cattle to local farmers, offer quality feed, and procure milk from them to enhance dairy production in the region. Furthermore, farm waste will be utilized for its proposed compressed biogas plant, ensuring a zero-waste approach.
BL Agro CEO Navneet Ravikar stated that in its initial phase, BL Kamdhenu will positively impact around 5,000 local farmers within the next 2-3 years. As the project expands, it is projected to benefit between 100,000 to 200,000 farmers, strengthening India’s dairy industry and rural economy.
A Vision for the Future
BL Agro’s high-tech dairy centre is poised to set new standards in sustainable dairy farming and agricultural innovation. With a strong focus on circular practices, technological advancements, and farmer empowerment, the initiative marks a significant step towards transforming India’s dairy landscape.
