Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh: The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has shut down an allegedly illegal flour factory in Jyoti Khudia, Mainpuri, after officials discovered a large quantity of talcum powder suspected to have been intended for adulterating flour.
Acting on the directions of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Commissioner and the Mainpuri District Magistrate, food safety officials conducted a raid at the flour mill on August 7. During the inspection, the operator reportedly failed to produce a valid food business licence, indicating that the unit was operating without the required authorization.
2,150 Kg of Talcum Powder Seized
According to Food Safety Commissioner Shweta Saini, officials found approximately 2,150 kilograms of talcum powder stored at the premises. The material was packed in 43 sacks.
The department suspects that the talcum powder was being kept for use as an adulterant in flour. Samples of the seized material have been collected and sent to a laboratory for testing to determine its composition and assess the nature of the suspected adulteration.
Factory Shut Down After Raid
Following the inspection and the failure of the operator to produce the required licence, authorities immediately shut down the factory.
Officials also seized the suspected adulterants found at the site and initiated further proceedings against the mill owner.
Legal Action Underway
The Food Safety Department said legal action is being taken against the operator in connection with the alleged violations. The laboratory examination of the seized material is expected to provide further evidence regarding its intended use and composition.
The raid highlights the role of food safety enforcement authorities in preventing the illegal manufacture and potential adulteration of staple food products such as flour.
The investigation and legal proceedings are currently underway, with further action expected based on the laboratory test results.
