In a major push to strengthen India’s food innovation ecosystem, Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated the BIRAC-BioNEST Incubation Centre at the prestigious CSIR-CFTRI campus in Mysuru.
🔬 Boosting Food Startups & Biotech Innovation
The newly launched incubation centre aims to nurture startups in food bioprocessing and biotechnology, helping them transform innovative ideas into commercially viable solutions.
Supported by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council, the facility will enable:
- Advanced research & development
- Scale-up of food technologies
- Product validation and efficacy studies
So far, CFTRI’s incubation ecosystem has supported 26 startups, with 12 patents filed, showcasing strong innovation outcomes.
🌱 Focus on Future-Ready Food Technologies
The incubated startups are working on cutting-edge areas such as:
- CRISPR-based innovations
- Nutraceuticals
- Precision fermentation
- Probiotics & postbiotics
- Plant-based and botanical solutions
Many of these ventures have already commercialised their products, highlighting CFTRI’s strong industry linkage.
🪖 Interest from Indian Army
Notably, innovations developed at CFTRI have attracted attention from the Indian Army, especially during high-profile visits in 2025 and 2026—indicating real-world application potential in defense and nutrition.
🏨 New Hostel Facility for Farmers & Entrepreneurs
To further strengthen skill development, CFTRI has also announced a new hostel facility for:
- Farmers
- Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)
- Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
The project is being developed under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.
👉 Key features:
- Accommodation for participants
- Classroom (capacity: 50 people)
- Kitchen & dining facilities
The hostel is expected to be ready within a year and will support 30–35 training programs annually, boosting rural entrepreneurship and food processing skills.
