A shocking case of food adulteration has surfaced in Gujarat after authorities uncovered a facility allegedly producing synthetic milk using hazardous chemicals instead of genuine dairy. The raid—confirmed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)—has triggered fresh concerns about long-term health risks for consumers.
What Happened?
On February 8, officials acted on intelligence reports pointing to adulterated milk being supplied across parts of Sabarkantha district and Mehsana district.
During the operation, inspectors discovered that the unit was mixing limited quantities of real milk with chemical additives and powders to artificially recreate milk’s colour, thickness, and protein content.
According to reports cited by Times of India, the factory allegedly used just 300 litres of real milk to manufacture nearly 1,700–1,800 litres of imitation product every day.
How the Fake Milk Was Made
Investigators say workers blended a cocktail of substances, including:
- Detergent powder
- Urea fertiliser
- Caustic soda
- Refined palm oil and soybean oil
- Whey powder, skimmed milk powder, and premium SMP powder
The final mixture was packed into pouches and sold as milk and buttermilk in nearby towns and villages.
What Officers Found During the Raid
The Local Crime Branch and food safety officials stormed a unit called Shree Satya Dairy Products near Salal village in Prantij. As reported by CNBC TV18, authorities seized:
- 1,962 litres of adulterated milk
- 1,100 litres of adulterated buttermilk
- Raw materials and chemicals worth ₹71 lakh
The factory was sealed immediately, and samples were dispatched for laboratory testing to assess the full scale of contamination.
Unsafe Milk Destroyed, Public Warned
FSSAI later shared visuals of the crackdown on X, confirming that 1,370 litres of unsafe milk were destroyed on the spot. Officials urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious dairy products to local authorities.
Cases like this highlight the continuing challenge of food adulteration in India—and the critical need for strict monitoring to protect consumers from potentially dangerous products. 🥛🚨
