The National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM–K) has taken a significant step towards inclusive growth by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Minority Affairs for the implementation of the PM VIKAS Scheme. The MoU was formally signed on 22 December 2025 in New Delhi, highlighting the government’s focus on strengthening skill development among minority communities.
Under this collaboration, NIFTEM–K has been designated as a Project Implementing Agency (PIA)—a role entrusted only to a limited number of Institutes of National Importance (INI) across the country. As part of the initiative, the institute will provide structured skill training to 2,110 beneficiaries belonging to minority communities from Jharkhand, Bihar, Punjab, and Haryana.
The training will focus on three industry-relevant job roles: Multi Skill Technician (Food Processing), Millet Products Processor, and Assistant Baking Technician. These roles have been carefully chosen to align with current industry demand and India’s growing emphasis on food processing, value addition, and millet-based products.
The programme will deliver NSQF-aligned training through NCVET-approved courses, ensuring nationally recognised standards and quality certification from MSDE/NCVET-recognised institutions. Beyond classroom and practical training, the initiative will actively support employment opportunities, self-employment ventures, apprenticeships, and provide market and credit linkages, helping trainees transition smoothly into sustainable livelihoods.
Scheduled to be rolled out in January 2026, the project reinforces NIFTEM–K’s ongoing commitment to capacity building, inclusivity, and nation-building. Through this initiative, the institute aims to empower minority youth with industry-ready skills while contributing to the growth and modernization of India’s food processing sector.
