The ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR–CIFT) is the only national research institute in the country that caters to the needs of harvest and post-harvest fisheries, covering both inland and marine sectors. CIFT is ISO / IEC 17025: 2017 NABL accredited, ISO 9001: 2005 certified laboratory and is recognized by FSSAI as a National Referral Laboratory and National Reference Laboratory for testing of fish and fishery products. CIFT provides consultancy and transfers harvest and post-harvest technologies to various beneficiaries and stakeholders. The institute is actively involved in developing fish and fish product standards for BIS, FSSAI, and Codex Alimentarius.
Broadly, the following topics shall be covered in the training:
Microbiological techniques:
- Isolation and identification of bacteria of public health significance
- Plating techniques in microbiology
- MPN techniques in microbiology
- Biochemical characterization of bacteria
- AMR detection
Molecular techniques:
- DNA / RNA isolation
- Introduction to PCR and its types
- Molecular characterization of bacterial pathogens
- Synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles
Cell culture techniques:
- Cell culture and safety procedures
- Microscopic analysis of cells
- Maintenance of cell cultures
Duration: The training is of 6 days duration and is scheduled to be organized during 8th December – 13th December, 2025. Outstation
participants are required to reach ICAR-CIFT latest by the evening of 7th December, 2025. The participants are advised to plan their return journey after 5:00 PM on 13th December 2025.
Eligibility: Postgraduate and undergraduate students of SC category pursuing in Microbiology, Biotechnology and life science are eligible to
apply. A total of 25 candidates shall be selected for the course. A screening committee shall make the selection of the candidates as per the guidelines of ICAR. The selected candidates shall be intimated regarding their selection for training on 30th November 2025.

Travel, food, and accommodation: The candidates selected for participation in the training will be provided with food, travel expenses limited to sleeper class in train and accommodation. Travel, food & accommodation expenses of candidates belonging to SC category will be borne by ICAR-CIFT as per respective programmed guidelines of Govt. of India.
