The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, has issued a notification introducing several new Indian Standards covering textiles, water quality, and food chain microbiology. These updates will take effect from August 26, 2025, with certain older versions being phased out by February 26, 2026.

🧵 Textile Standards (Revised)
- IS 1531:2025 – Textiles: Blanketing Cloth (3rd Revision) replacing IS 1531:1993
- IS 1670:2025 – Yarn: Breaking Force & Elongation (3rd Revision) replacing IS 1670:1991
➡️ These revisions modernize testing methods and bring them in line with international practices.
💧 Water Quality Standards (New Additions)
- IS 19200:2025 – Detection of Cryptosporidium & Giardia (based on ISO 15553:2006)
- IS 19333 (Part 1):2025 – Detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Membrane Method)
- IS 19333 (Part 2):2025 – Detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MPN Method)
- IS 19338:2025 – Variability & Uncertainty in Microbiological Methods
- IS 19342:2025 – Detection of Thermotolerant Campylobacter spp.
- IS 19352:2025 – Legionella detection using qPCR
➡️ These standards aim to improve water testing reliability across public health and industrial applications.

- IS 18349 (Part 2):2025 – Enumeration of Clostridium perfringens
- IS 18349 (Part 3):2025 – Detection of Clostridium perfringens
- IS 19353:2025 – Sampling Techniques for Food & Feed Microbiology

📅 Effective Date
- All new standards: From 26 August 2025
- Withdrawal of old standards: IS 1531:1993 and IS 1670:1991 to be withdrawn on 26 February 2026
