New Delhi, August 1, 2025 — In a significant move to enhance food safety and empower consumers, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made it mandatory for all Food Business Operators (FBOs) — including restaurants, cafes, dhabas, and other eateries — to prominently display the QR code of the ‘Food Safety Connect’ app on their FSSAI license or registration certificates.
This QR code, now available on the front page of FSSAI licenses and registrations, must be displayed in areas easily visible to customers, such as entrances, billing counters, and dining areas. The initiative aims to give consumers quick and easy access to a digital platform for reporting food safety violations, lodging complaints, and accessing verified information about food outlets.
Additionally, FBOs are required to include the QR code or direct download link of the ‘Food Safety Connect’ app on their websites and online ordering platforms wherever applicable. This move is in accordance with Condition No. 1 of the FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
The ‘Food Safety Connect’ app, developed by FSSAI, enables users to:
- Report food safety or hygiene issues
- Lodge complaints against misleading food labels or claims
- Access information about registered FBOs
- Stay updated on FSSAI guidelines, safety alerts, and advisories
Complaints registered via the app are instantly forwarded to the appropriate jurisdictional authority, ensuring timely redressal and accountability.
This initiative highlights FSSAI’s commitment to strengthening public trust in India’s food ecosystem and fostering a culture of transparency and safety in the food industry.
