In a major drive to ensure food hygiene and compliance, the Food Safety Department of Madhya Pradesh conducted a surprise inspection in Indore and took strict action against a momos factory and restaurant found operating under unhygienic conditions.
According to officials, the factory was functioning without a valid FSSAI license, a clear violation of food safety regulations. During the inspection, authorities discovered filthy premises, open garbage, swarming flies, and extremely poor storage conditions for raw and cooked food items.
Several food materials were seized on the spot, and samples have been collected and sent to the laboratory for further testing. The inspection team also found evidence of improper food handling practices and contamination risks that posed a serious threat to public health.
The department has initiated legal proceedings under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and stated that strict penalties will be imposed after test results are received.
Officials from the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) have reiterated their commitment to zero tolerance for such violations and have warned other food businesses to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety norms.
This action is part of an ongoing statewide campaign to curb unlicensed and unhygienic food operations in Madhya Pradesh, especially in cities like Indore where the street food industry is rapidly expanding.
Citizens are also being urged to check the FSSAI license number before purchasing or consuming food from any outlet and to report unhygienic conditions through the official “Food Safety Connect” app.
