Food Safety and Standards Authority of India(FSSAI) has invited objections and suggestions on its previous draft Food Safety and Standards (Packaging)Amendment Regulations 2021 which will add antimony and phthalic acid, bis (2-ethylhexyl) ester (DEHP) as substances which are set requirement for specific migration limits from plastic materials intended to be in contact with articles of food.
The above-mentioned draft was published under sub-section (1) of section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006) vide notification of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India number, F.No. Std./SP-20/T(Migration-N), dated the 6th of September,2021 in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, part III, Section 4.
FSSAI invited objections and suggestions from the persons likely to be affected before the expiry of the period of sixty days from the date on which the copies of the Official Gazette containing the said notifications were made available to the public.
Notably, the copies of the said Gazette were made available to the public on 8th of September 2021. Accordingly, FSSAI received objections and suggestions. Consequently, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (k) of sub-section (2) of section 92 read with section 23 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006),FSSAI has come up with certain regulations to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018.
