In a shocking revelation, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted a highly organised racket involved in selling expired food products across India by altering their manufacturing and expiry dates. Seven people have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to police, the accused were importing expired international branded items, including chocolates, baby products, groceries, and cold drinks, and then tampering with their expiry dates. Fake barcodes were printed, and the products were repackaged to make them appear genuine before being supplied to wholesale markets.
The racket was operating mainly from the Delhi NCR region. During multiple raids, police seized large quantities of expired goods, including nearly 14,000 litres of expired cold drinks. Investigators revealed that specialised machines were being used inside the factory to erase old dates and print fresh ones, visuals of which were captured during the raid.
Authorities have warned that such products pose a serious risk to public health, especially baby food and beverages. Further investigation is underway to trace the full supply chain and identify distributors and retailers linked to the racket.
