Haridwar, Uttarakhand: In a major crackdown on food adulteration, a joint team of Food Safety officials and the Police conducted a raid at Gujjar Dairy in the Kangri area of Haridwar, uncovering an alleged illegal paneer manufacturing operation using questionable ingredients.
During the inspection, officials recovered 50 empty milk powder bags, which were allegedly being used along with foreign fats in the production of paneer. Authorities suspect that these ingredients were being used to manufacture adulterated paneer, posing a potential risk to consumer health.
As part of the enforcement action, food samples were collected and sent to the State Food Laboratory in Rudrapur for detailed quality and safety analysis. The laboratory results will determine whether the products comply with the standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Officials also destroyed 49 kilograms of suspected adulterated paneer found at the premises to prevent it from reaching consumers.
In addition, the dairy operator was issued a notice under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, citing alleged violations related to food licensing requirements and food adulteration. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the laboratory analysis and the outcome of the investigation.
The operation is part of the ongoing efforts by food safety authorities to curb food adulteration and ensure that only safe and hygienic food reaches consumers. Officials reiterated their zero-tolerance policy toward unsafe and adulterated food products, warning that strict action will continue against businesses found violating food safety regulations.
The Food Safety Department has urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of food adulteration, emphasizing that public cooperation is essential in maintaining food safety standards across the state.
