In a significant step towards strengthening global food security, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Food Programme (WFP) to support international humanitarian efforts aimed at combating hunger.
Under the agreement, the Government of India will supply two lakh metric tonnes of rice to WFP. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, highlighting India’s growing contribution to global food assistance initiatives.
Strengthening India’s Global Commitment
Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Sanjeev Chopra, stated that the agreement reflects India’s strong resolve to ensure that no one goes hungry. He emphasized that India will continue to stand with the international community in addressing malnutrition and food insecurity.
This collaboration reinforces India’s position as a trusted and responsible contributor to global food systems. By partnering with WFP, India is extending its support beyond borders, assisting vulnerable populations affected by conflicts, natural disasters, and economic instability.
India’s Role in Global Food Security
The Food Corporation of India, the country’s central agency for procurement and distribution of food grains, plays a crucial role in maintaining food security within India. Through this MoU, FCI’s capabilities are now being leveraged to support humanitarian operations worldwide.
The Food Corporation of India–WFP partnership marks another milestone in India’s international cooperation efforts, demonstrating solidarity with nations facing food shortages and crises.
As global challenges such as climate change, supply chain disruptions, and conflicts continue to impact food availability, initiatives like this MoU highlight the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility in ensuring food reaches those who need it most.
With this agreement, India once again reaffirms its commitment to fighting hunger globally and contributing meaningfully to humanitarian relief efforts across the world.
