In a significant development for food safety cooperation, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering bilateral collaboration.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday at the FSSAI Headquarters in New Delhi by Rajit Punhani, CEO of FSSAI, and Tom Black, First Assistant Secretary of DAFF. This marks an important milestone in the growing partnership between India and Australia in the food safety sector.
Under the MoU, both nations will work closely to exchange best practices, share technical knowledge, align import procedures, and undertake capacity-building initiatives. The collaboration will also involve technical cooperation to enhance regulatory frameworks and consumer safety.
Officials from both countries expressed optimism that this agreement will strengthen institutional ties, improve food safety standards, and benefit stakeholders across the food industry. The MoU is expected to facilitate smoother trade flows between India and Australia, ensuring greater consumer confidence and quality assurance in food products.
This strategic partnership underscores the commitment of both nations to raising global food safety standards and fostering mutual growth in the agri-food sector.
